Driven by the conviction that culture is a vehicle for individual emancipation and for the defense of freedoms, the Museums of Marseille offer audiences a better understanding of the strength of cultural expression that characterizes LGBTQ+ communities and individuals along with the power of their impact on our collective identities. In this perspective, the Museums of Marseille present as part of the "Pride 2 Weeks" 2022, the cult work "The Other Side" by the artist Nan Goldin, a rare set of 174 slides made between 1972 and 1993 documenting the ballroom scene in several cities around the world. The presentation of this work in the Grobet-Labadié Museum offers new insights into the art from the 15th to the 19th centuries, through the prism of issues related to the representation of body, gender and sexuality in the contemporary world.
